Mysterious Spheres for January/February 2010
By Michelle Cook
In this year’s articles, we will discover the important roles played by the planets in Vedic Astrology vs. Western Astrology.
In the vast studies of the world around us, astrological facets play a major, if often unseen, role. It is a topic we have touched on briefly in the past, yet it has a deep impact on our daily lives, how we interact with others, how we view the past, present, and future, what we make of ourselves, and do with ourselves, how we apply what we have learned, and even what we are teaching. The differences between eastern and western processes differ immensely, but one major common denominator is the importance played by the planets on our bodies, minds, and souls. It is fascinating to discover how much you can learn by applying what you learn about the planets.
One major difference between the two philosophies of astrology, eastern and western, revolves around the planets used in the prediction process. The most striking difference to me is the most obvious. The moon acts as a planet. Logically, the moon, which has a superior amount of force, on, not only our planet, but every other planet and the human condition, must be considered in the evolution of astrology. Which brings us to the beginning of this year’s article topics: These Mysterious Spheres.
The Moon represents the deep mysteries of the minds and emotions and as such reveals our emotional and psychological tendencies. The Moon has no light of its own, but bears only the reflection of the Sun, or the Soul, so in essence the Moon carries your soul’s consciousness. This makes the Moon a major player in our astrological profile, as it gives indications about characteristics and manner of lifestyle. Depending upon the house in which the Moon makes its appearance in your birth chart, it will signify your passions and interests. She is, indeed, a major player in our lives in more ways than we could possibly imagine.
Statistically speaking, Blue Moons, also known as a major Moon phase, can happen twice within a calendar month for the simple reason that our Gregorian calendar no longer pays physical attention to Moon phases, but statistics aren’t really what we are interested in here. We are interested in the Moon and the fact that our second decade of this new century launched itself astrologically speaking on a Blue Moon, which will remain so until the rising of the next full moon at the end of this month on January 30th, the Bright Moon, also a Blue Moon.
Cultures, the world over, consider the Blue Moon a sign of something big, whether positive or negative, actually depends upon that particular culture. So it is with deep interest that we take a look at the moon in light of a planetary aspect. Native American cultures invite Grandmother Moon to watch over us as a guiding light, an ever-constant reminder on this path to remember our ancestors and the ways of honor.
This Blue Moon is more than just that, though, launched as it was on a lunar eclipse, it is a warning reminder. When your soul becomes shadowed, the time has come to put aside the quest for more, and more, and more, of whatever it is that you have needed to fill that small empty place within you, and to follow your path with personal integrity and ethical consideration. In this new age that we have embarked upon together, Blue Moon clearly speaks of walking a path of truth and integrity, with harm to none, now, in this time, to set the pace for generations to come. We get a second reminder of this on January 30th. Pay attention.
