Moon Whispers for August

There is no scientific proof that the moon affects us in any way, and yet it's widely believed that the phases of the moon, just as it affects the tides, it does humans and animals, and plants. The media feeds on this, always commenting that there are more crimes and accidents during full moon and ask any nurse and they'll tell you more injured people enter hospitals during this period- but how many things haven't yet been proven?

The gravitational force of the moon is strong enough to cause the ocean to rise (causing high tide) and therefore it is possibly changing the gravitational effect on our glands and organs which can affect our moods. During the night, the full moon counteracts the gravitational pull on us from the Earth, and during the day its complete absence overhead would allow the Earth's gravitation to have an unobstructed affect on us.

This gravitational difference between mid-day and midnight is the greatest during the days of the full moon (and new moon when the moon is overhead during midday and absent during the night). It is one explanation for a persons more erratic behavior during this time (and also during the new moon for some people). Some animals change in behavior also during the changes of the moon, much as humans, their moods and maybe their actions seem influenced as well as sexual behavior seem more prominent during different phases of the moon.

The Moon is Earth's only natural satellite. The Moon is the only celestial body that humans have traveled to and landed on. The average center-to-center distance from the Earth to the Moon is 238,857 miles, The Moon makes a complete orbit around the Earth every 27.3 days, and the periodic variations in the geometry of the Earth–Moon–Sun system are responsible for the lunar phases that repeat every 29.5 days.

This will be a new series for the next twelve months, with explanation of the phases of the moon as they appear, and the gods and goddesses, of the ancient traditions that represent each month.

This August is represented by Ganesha, the remover of obstacles; there are big festivals all over India this month in celebration of his birthday. Ganesha represents breaking up the obstacles in your life, its about good luck, new beginnings, successful enterprises, worldly success, its about creative writing, so generally its about over coming all your obstacles.

So, if you want to meditate on Ganesha, you take a white candle, you offer him sweets as well as milk , and some sandalwood incense, everyday. There are mantras found on the internet that you can download, and play for the whole month, praying and making the offerings to Ganesha, to clear all the obstacles in your life.
